EMDR : An Explainer
EMDR aims to resolve certain experiences in a person's life that have had a detrimental impact on their wellbeing. The theory underpinning EMDR is summed up by the statement 'The body keeps the score'. It is a specialised type of approach that harnesses the natural sleep cycles of the body, namely Rapid Eye Movement (REM) to clear a person's headspace of the emotional falloutfrom certain unpleasant/traumatic/ stressful events. It is a highly successful in treating trauma. Please see my clip about this where I explain small-"t" and big-"T" trauma. It is found to be effective in treating trauma, depression, anxiety etc.
Please also see this video that explains how EMDR works.
